Case study: Coast Project

Sunderland’s beautiful coastline is home to many species of rare bird, wildflowers and sea life, which need protection from a variety of threats such as new housing developments for the area over the coming years. Funded by Sunderland City Council, the Coast project seeks to engage local residents in the conservation of the area’s coastline and its wildlife.

When the Coast project put the development of their website out to tender early in 2018, we were successful in our bid submission and have been working with the project ever since, not only developing their website, but also delivering some additional marketing support.

We worked closely with key stakeholders from the Coast project including the Coast Ranger and representatives from Sunderland City Council to get a clear understanding of their vision and expectations for the new website. It was clear that the site needed to be educational, accessible and engaging in order to meet the aims of the project.

We worked closely with the project team to identify appropriate visual material for the website, including wildlife and landscape photography and drone footage of the area, which we procured and optimised for the site. We also developed the copy for the website on behalf of the project.

We liaised closely with the Coast Ranger to gain an in-depth understanding of the species the project is seeking to protect and of the nature of coastline in the area. After taking a detailed brief, we developed engaging and insightful copy for the website which brought the detail of the project to life and helped to engage the project’s target audiences.

We ensured that all web copy was optimised for SEO, ensuring the site appeared high up on the search engine results pages.

We set up social media platforms on behalf of the project and advised the project team on initial online community development and management techniques to ensure they were being seen by their target audiences and engaging in relevant groups to facilitate brand awareness.

The launch of the Coast project involved the team exhibiting at a number of regional events, and we were happy to be able to support the team in the design and production of a range of marketing collateral including banner stands, promotional flags, flyers and business cards.

Working with dodio has been like having an extension to our in-house team. We’re very passionate about what we do, and they took the time to get a clear understanding of the project and the subject matter. They have done a great job in interpreting this into something so engaging and insightful.
